How to choose the right instance type for hosting an On-Premise Poller on AWS, Azure, or GCP
When deploying Site24x7 On-Premise Pollers on public cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP, choosing the right instance type and operating system is essential for optimal monitoring performance. Any of these cloud instances that meet the prerequisites listed
here can be used to host the On-Premise Poller for monitoring networks.
Choosing the right operating system
- Windows: Recommended if your monitoring involves availability checks across a large number of devices (for example, ICMP/ping-based monitoring).
- Linux (Ubuntu or CentOS): Suitable for most other use cases, including SNMP-based monitoring, NetFlow, and configuration management.
Key points to remember
- The recommended configuration supports up to 1,500 devices, 10,000 interfaces, and 250 NetFlow interfaces with standard polling intervals.
- If your monitoring load is lower, you can downscale the instance size accordingly.
- Always ensure high disk I/O performance and network throughput for NetFlow and NCM data processing.
Hosting On-Premise Pollers on public cloud environments can provide improved scalability and availability. Just ensure that you have outbound access to monitored devices and that required ports and protocols are open in the cloud security groups.
