FAQs on mapping and adding a server based on hostname
- What would happen if the option Map and add a server based on hostname is enabled?
Server monitors will be mapped only based on the hostname defined by the sys admin, and not the instance IDs and UUIDs. Read a use case. - Will it overwrite the existing server monitor(s)?
If separate server monitors are already created, they won't be affected until agent reinstallation. - What will happen to the existing server monitor(s) if the Map and add a server based on hostname option is set to Yes and agent is reinstalled?
During agent reinstallation, if two servers are there with the same hostname or communicating with the same remote IPs, both the agents will be mapped to the same server monitor. Data of both the servers will point to the same server monitor in Site24x7. - What will happen if one of the two server monitors is deleted?
- If there are two server monitors in Site24x7, then the selected server monitor will be deleted and it won't affect the other server monitor.
- If both the servers are pointing to the same server monitor in Site24x7, then follow the steps given in these articles for Windows and Linux to continue monitoring for the other server.
- What will happen if one of the two servers is turned off?
- If there are two server monitors in Site24x7, then the respective server, that is turned off, will go to Down state in Site24x7.
- If both the servers are pointing to the same server monitor in Site24x7, an alert will be sent to the user contact. But, data from the other server will continue to be posted in the Site24x7 web client.
- What will happen if one of the two server monitors is suspended?
- If there are two server monitors in Site24x7, the respective server monitor will go to the Suspended state in Site24x7. It won't affect the other server monitor.
- If both the servers are pointing to the same server monitor in Site24x7, data collection will be affected. No new monitor will be created.
