Log storage retention add-on vs. log search retention add-on
Customers sometimes purchase the log storage retention add-on expecting it to increase the volume of logs their account can collect. However, they find their AppLogs' Usage tab still shows the same collection limit. This article explains why, and which add-on to purchase instead, based on the new AppLogs interface.
Use case
An organization is nearing its daily or monthly AppLogs collection limit and purchases a storage add-on to increase it. The purchase doesn't reflect in Usage Summary, but the collection limit, such as the Total Logs Usage shown under AppLogs > Usage, remains unchanged.
Root cause
The storage retention add-on is only used to extend the archival or storage duration of logs. It does not raise the log collection size or searchable limit days.

If an account purchases only the storage retention add-on, the purchase reflects correctly in the AppLogs > Usage tab, Total Logs Storage widget, but the log collection limit (Total Logs Usage) remains unchanged.
Solution
- Go to AppLogs > Usage and check the Total Logs Usage by Search Retention and the Total Logs Usage by Storage Retention.
- Navigate to Admin > Subscriptions > Plan Details.
- In the Addon Summary section, see which add-on was purchased. For example, the 10GB-6Months Logs Storage Add-on line item affects log storage retention duration only.
- To increase the log collection limit, purchase the log collection add-on (Additional 100GB Logs Add-on) separately.
- To retain existing logs for longer, the storage retention add-on already applies to the selected log types under Admin > AppLogs > Log Types.
