No alerts for Edge Transport mail server

Why am I not alerted when mails are not received by the Edge Transport Role server?

Edge Transport Role server in a Microsoft exchange set up handles the internet-facing mail flow which provides SMTP relay and smart host services for the exchange organization.

Use case:
The user is not alerted if emails are not received by the Edge Transport Role server in an Exchange set up. Particularly, emails from the internet are not received while intranet emails are successfully exchanged.

Solution:
The user has to install our Windows agent in the Edge Transport Role server and configure alerts for the Edge SMTP In-bound packets. This will alert the customer if internet emails are not received by the server.

In addition, the following Edge Transport Windows services will be added for monitoring by default:
  • Microsoft Exchange Transport Log Search
  • Microsoft Exchange Anti-spam Update
  • Microsoft Exchange Transport
  • Microsoft Exchange Transport Log Search
  • Microsoft Exchange ADAM
  • Microsoft Exchange Credential Service
Note: In case the Hub Transport Role handles both internal and external emails, then the user can install the Windows agent and configure alerts for Hub SMTP In-bound packets. This would alert the user on the overall SMTP In-bound packets.
