Alerting for disk utilization thresholds

How does alerting work for disk utilization thresholds when a combination of threshold settings are configured?

Threshold values for disks can be set via three ways in the Site24x7 web client. Log in to Site24x7 and go to:
  • Option 1: Admin Configuration Profiles Threshold and Availability. Set thresholds under Disk Utilization Threshold to set a threshold value for the entire disk
  • Option 2: Admin Configuration Profiles Threshold and Availability. Set thresholds under Partition Disk Utilization Threshold to set a common threshold for all disk partitions.
  • Option 3: Server Server Monitor Servers > click on the server monitor > Disks. Set thresholds for individual disk partitions using the pencil icon under Action.

If only one of the above threshold settings are configured, an alert is sent to the user based on the violation. When there is a combination of the above threshold configurations, priority-based alerting comes into picture. A user can set thresholds in the following combinations:
  • Option (1) & Option (2) - entire disk and all partitions
  • Option (1) & Option (3) - entire disk and individual partition
  • Option (2) & Option (3) - all partitions and individual partition
Option (1) & Option (2):
Alerting preference will be based on the threshold that is breached first.
For example, a user has set the disk utilization threshold at 90% and the partition disk utilization threshold at 70%. When the disk utilization threshold reaches 93%, a TROUBLE alert will be sent with the disk utilization violation as the reason.

Note: If both the thresholds get violated at the same time, a TROUBLE alert will be sent mentioning both the violations as the reason.

Option (1) & Option (3):
Alerting preference will be based on the threshold that is breached first.
For example, a user has set the disk utilization threshold at 90% and the individual disk partition '/' threshold at 70%. When the disk utilization threshold reaches 93%, a TROUBLE alert will be sent with the disk utilization violation as the reason.

Note: If both the thresholds get violated at the same time, a TROUBLE alert will be sent mentioning both the violations as the reason.

Option (2) & Option (3):
Alerting preference will be given to the individual disk partition threshold.
For example, a user has set the partition disk utilization threshold at 90%, and the threshold for the individual disk partition '/' at 70%. In case the individual disk utilization threshold of '/' reaches 72%, an alert will be sent to the user, even though the partition disk utilization threshold is not breached yet.

Note: If both the thresholds get violated at the same time, a TROUBLE alert will be sent mentioning the individual disk partition threshold as the reason.
