How do I exclude some interfaces from being monitored while adding a network?
While adding a network for monitoring, you are allowed to create a network discovery rule that lets you set up interface filters. Here, you are allowed to define the following parameters:
- Interface type
- Admin state (Up, Down, and Testing)
- Operational state (Up, Down, Testing, Dormant, and Unknown)
While the network/device is being discovered and added, the interfaces that comply with the network discovery rule will automatically be added for monitoring. You can create a new rule every time you add a network or device, or select from any of the existing ones. This way, you can choose to monitor only the interfaces that are necessary and exclude others.
To add the interfaces that do not conform to the discovery rule selected, you can use the Rediscover Interfaces option. For this:
1. Log in to your Site24x7 account.
2. Navigate to Network.
3. Click the
hamburger icon

next to the desired device and click
Rediscover Interfaces.
You can also change the discovery rule associated with a monitor in order to discover more interfaces. You can do this by clicking
Edit in the menu that appears from clicking the
hamburger icon

mentioned above.
You can edit the following fields in the Edit Network Device Monitor pop-up that opens:
- Rule Name: Provide a unique name for the rule.
- Description: Provide a description to explain the rule.
- Interface Type(s): Select a value from the drop-down menu.
- Admin State: Select one or more options—Up, Down, or Testing—in the drop-down menu.
- Operational State: Select one or more options—Up, Down, Testing, Unknown, or Dormant—in the drop-down menu.
- Interface Name: Toggle between Any of these Conditions (OR) or All of these Conditions (AND). In the drop-down menu, select a condition. In the field beside it, provide a value. Click the plus + icon to add more conditions.
- Click Save Rule.
- Navigate to Admin > Inventory > Bulk Action.
- In the Network Monitoring section, click Associate Interface Discovery Rule.
- Toggle between Any of these Conditions (OR) or All of these Conditions (AND).
- In the drop-down menu, select a filter for choosing the monitors.
- In the field beside it, select a condition: is, is not, contains, does not contain, begins with, or ends with.
- Click the plus + icon to add more conditions.
- Then, click Filter Monitors to discover interfaces within the monitors displayed in the result.
