FAQs on docker monitoring

FAQs on the recent enhancements for docker monitoring

  1. What are the enhancements done for docker monitoring?
Today, containers have gained prominence among developers due to their speed, portability, and isolation capabilities. But these same features make it difficult when monitoring or troubleshooting them. You need to have deep visibility inside containers rather than just knowing that some containers exist. With this enhancement, you can view the resource usage of individual containers, perform start/stop actions from the Site24x7 web client, and get access to exclusive reports and dashboards.
  2. Will there be a licensing change with this update?
Yes, each docker host with five containers will consume one basic monitor license. After that, every five containers will consume one basic monitor license.
  3. How many basic monitors will I consume if I have 105 containers running in my environment?
105 containers will consume 21 basic monitors, i.e.,
    1 docker host + 5 Containers = 2 basic monitors
    100 Containers                = 20 basic monitors
  4. Does this licensing apply to my existing container monitors as well?
Existing active containers in your account will not be charged from June to August 2020. This licensing change will apply only to new containers being added to your account.
  5. How do I enable this enhancement?
With upgrade to Linux agent 17.5.7 and above, this enhancement will be applied.
  6. Will my container monitors be removed from Site24x7 when they are deleted from my Docker environment?
The monitors will immediately get suspended in the Site24x7 client. Ensure to have the option Automatically Remove Terminated Containers under Container Termination Settings in the Edit Docker Monitor page to remove them permanently.
  7. How to disable auto discovery of containers?
This can be done in bulk or by selecting them separately.
  8. Can I disable alerts for my containers?
Yes, alerts can be suppressed for your docker containers in bulk.
